Next Saturday night North Georgia Speedway will host the Southern All Star Series for a Labor Day Weekend Special. All the regular divisions will be racing and it will be their final points race of the season.

"Cleveland Speedway will not be racing next Saturday night so we can concentrate on the big Labor Day SAS special here at North Georgia," continued Morrow. "Every time we open the doors at North Georgia we have some real hard nosed racing. With the SAS travelers coming to town and it being the last night for points you know the drivers won't be leaving anything in the trailer."

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (July 19) The driver bonus system between North Georgia and Cleveland Speedways is still in place and next week with the Thursday night Southern National event will be even bigger.

If a Late Model driver wins at North Georgia on Friday night and at Cleveland on Saturday night they will receive a $500 bonus. If no driver wins both events there will be a $100 bonus for the driver that has the highest average finish. For the Limited Late Models, Sportsman and Crate classes a double winner receives $300 or highest average finisher receives $100. In Hobby and Pony it is 100 and 50 dollars.

Next week if a Late Model driver wins Thursday at Cleveland, Friday at North Georgia and Saturday at Cleveland they will receive a $3,000 bonus. Winning two out of the three races the bonus is $1,000 and if neither of those scenarios works out the high point man picks up $250. For Limited/Crate Late Models it is $1,000, $500 and $100 dollars.

"These bonus programs have proven to be very popular and it is one of the advantages of promoting two race tracks," said Monty Morrow who refused to talk about the disadvantages of promoting two race tracks. Owens Holds Off Madden for North Georgia Win

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (July 13) Nothing unlucky about Friday the 13th for Jimmy Owens as the Newport, Tenn. racer held off Chris Madden and a stellar field to win round one of the Tarver Distributing Budweiser Southern All Star Thunder in the Mountains at North Georgia Speedway Friday night.

Although he led all 45 laps of the night's feature event, it was not a walk in the park for Owens as Madden and McDowell would kept him honest. In the waning laps with Owens and Madden entrenched in the top spots Skip Arp was the man on the move. With 10 to go Arp moved past Shane Clanton for third and began to hound the leaders, but ran out of laps and ended up third in the final tally. Clanton held on for fourth with Dale McDowell fifth.

Owens would win the first lap drag race from his outside front row starting position and take the lead. Madden, who had fast time, would fall in behind Owens with Clanton, Ivadent Lloyd and McDowell in tow. McDowell would move into third on the fifth lap and begin a crowd pleasing battle with Madden. On lap 16 McDowell would take over second only to have Madden retake the spot four laps later. McDowell would continue to haunt Madden before Clanton would take the third spot only to loose the spot to a hard charging Arp.

Rounding out the top 10 were Ricky Armes, Tommy Kerr, Ray Cook, David Payne and Todd Morrow.

There were 43 Super Late Models on hand with 38 taking their two qualifying laps. Chris Madden was the fastest qualifier with a time of 12.434 seconds. Eventual winner Jimmy Owens was second quick with a time of 12.532 seconds.

In Limited Late Model action Rick Hixson took the lead from Leon Brindle, when Bridle faltered on the eleventh lap of the 20-lap feature. Hixson would go on to take the win with Brian Burke crossing the line in second. Matt Steward, Shannon Beardon and B.J. Pasley rounded out the top five.

Although Brindle's problems put an end to a three race win streak he was able to pick up two points on point leader PD Doss. The two points were just enough to put Brindle in a tie with Doss for the point lead.

Crate Late Model point leader Darryl Owneby took the lead from Allen Green on lap 10 and went on to take the feature win. Green would finish second with Doug Kilgore third, John Ownbey fourth and Corey Roulette fifth.

Greg Callahan wired the Mini-Stock feature taking the win over current point leader Grady Stokes. Following Callahan and Stokes across the line were Chris DeFore, Ralph Langston and Brandon Stokes.

At the half-way point the top four would remain the same with mechanical problems sending Tankersley to the pits and Lee Sutton would move into fifth. With 10 laps to go Ronnie Johnson, who started mid-pack, would move past Sutton and take over the fifth spot. With two laps remaining Johnson would move past Cook for fourth and on the white flag lap Sutton would take fifth from Cook.

Cook would settle for sixth with Jake Knowles, Shawn Chastain, Jamie Oliver, Ricky Williams and David Payne rounding out the top 10.

Leon Brindle would wire the Limited Late Model feature for his third win in the last three outings. On his journey to victory lane Brindle kept B.J. Pasley and Danny Pippin in his rear view. After two weeks of finishing second to Brindle, Shannon Bearden crossed the stripe in fourth with Brian Burke rounding out the top five.

The win, combined with P.J. Doss' seventh place finish, put the ageless veteran just two points behind point leader Doss.

Jeff Smith kept Doug Kilgore at bay to take the Crate Late Model feature win. Kilgore settled for second with Darryl Ownbey, Jimmy Kay and Seth Wimpy the next three across the line.

After moving past Spencer Singleton for second on lap 10 of the 15 lap Sportsman feature, Lee Gray stalked leader Randy Dillard for 4 laps. Johnson from the Rear for North Georgia Win

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (June 22) Problems in his heat relegated Ronnie Johnson to a dead last starting position in the Late Model feature Friday night at North Georgia Speedway, but that did not deter the crafty veteran as he blew threw the field to take the win.

Whatever problems Johnson had in his heat race were fixed by the time the feature rolled around as Johnson used the whole race track to pass the other 14 Late Models and take the win. With five laps to go in the 30 lap feature Johnson moved past Skip Arp for second. When the white flag fell he passed the last car, leader Lamar Scoggin, and to the checkered flag for the win.

Scoggins settled for second, early leader Arp was third, Derek Ellis fourth, and Riley Hickman fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were Paul Hollander, Lee Sutton, Mike Satterfield, Davy Davis and Tony Knowles.

For the second Friday night in a row Leon Brindle took the Limited Late Model win. The crafty veteran took the lead on the first lap and kept Shannon Bearden at bay for all 20 circuits to take the win. Bearden finished second to Brindle  for the second week in a row with point leader PD Doss finishing third. Brian Jackson and Caleb Bearden rounded out the top five.

First holding off Doug Kilgore and then point leader Darryl Ownbey, Jeff Smith won the Crate Late Model feature leading every lap. Ownbey finished second, Kilgore third, Allen Green fourth and Reed Johnson fifth.

When problems befell race leader Spencer Singleton on lap 14 of the 15 lap Sportsman feature it opened the door for Lee Gray to take the lead and the win.  Randy Dillard was second and was followed across the stripe by Lisa Cantrell, Tony Westmorland and Scott Jackson. Point leader Singleton would be scored seventh in the final tally.

Jamie Parker would take the Hobby win and extend his season point lead over Larry Higgins who finished sixth. Leading every lap Parker would take the win over Jeff Rile, Tim Ford, Jon Clark and Jon Parker.

Mini Stock/Pony action saw Grady Stoke best Greg Callahan to take the win. Chris Defore was third, Travis Jacobsen fourth and Randall McGuire fifth.

Donnie Price topped the Bomber field as he powered his way to a win over Ted Montgomery, Tom Darby, Rob Johnson and Doug Hopson.

All racing was completed and everyone was on their way home a little after 10 pm. Next Friday night will be the Firecracker 40 paying $3,000 to win for Late Models, plus racing in all regular divisions. Due to a bureaucratic snafu there will be no fireworks.

Changes Taking Place at North Georgia

One of the changes being made at North Georgia Speedway is a new gate for the outside pits. Looking from turn two down the back straight you will notice an open space in the wall. The space will soon have a gate and will be used to insure better ingress and egress from the outside pits. (North Georgia Speedway photo)
CHATSWORTH, Ga. (June 11) Although it has only been a week or two since it was announced that Cleveland Speedway promoter Monty Morrow would be taking over the promotional duties at North Georgia Speedway there are already some changes being made at the third mile clay oval.

"We are not trying to reinvent the wheel at North Georgia, in fact we are trying to make as few changes as possible," said Morrow. "The changes we are making will hopefully give the competitors a better place to race and after seeing a great show get the fans home in a timely manner."

The first and most major change was one of scheduling. Starting this Friday June 15 with the Lucas Late Model Dirt Series Special North Georgia will be racing on Friday nights. You will see a new flagman on the flag stand, but for the most part the personnel will remain the same.

"I will be bringing a couple of my people down from Cleveland to help us get our feet on the ground. But I have no intention of replacing the crew at North Georgia with a crew from Cleveland or anything like that," continued Morrow. "They have a good crew at North Georgia and we would like to keep them all."

There will also be changes in the race track with most of those geared, like the new outside pit entrance in turn two, to making the show run smoother.

"We look forward to seeing everyone Friday night for the Lucas Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned $7,000 to win Harris Sutton Chevrolet 40," concluded Morrow.

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (June 6) Cleveland Speedway owner and promoter Monty Morrow has taken over the promotion of North Georgia Speedway, a third mile clay oval located in Chatsworth, Ga.

Morrow, who is in the process of taking over the speedway, doesn't plan to make a lot of changes at the North Georgia track.

"The biggest change will be racing on Friday nights," said Morrow, who is questioning his sanity for adding a second track to his already busy schedule. "Other than that everything, the classes, the points and things like that won't change."

Morrow went on to say that although there are a thousand details to take care of he is doing everything he can to get things back and going at the track. On Friday June 15 the Lucas Oil Dirt Series event will take place as scheduled.

"The Lucas event will go off as scheduled as will the scheduled Southern All Star events," continued Morrow. "We will post all the information we have on the track website, northgeorgiaspeedway.com/ Again we apologize for the disruption, we are doing everything possible to get things back to normal as soon possible."

Monty Morrow and the new management of North Georgia Speedway apologize for any inconvience and hope to have every thing taken care of in a timely manner.

"We understand that the fans and competitors at North Georgia Speedway have gone from knowing what is going on and being able to make plans to not having a clue," said promoter Monty Morrow.
