Arp Stays Hot at North Georgia
CHATSWORTH, Ga. (June 29) Coming off a SAS win last weekend Skip Arp kept the hot hand as he won the Firecracker 40 at North Georgia Speedway Friday night.
Arp would take the lead on the first lap and with Gary McPherson and Tommy Kerr in tow would lead all 40 circuits to win the Firecracker 40 and pocket the $3,000 first place prize money. Ray Cook would hold down the fourth spot and Shane Tankersley would hound Cook from fifth.
At the half-way point the top four would remain the same with mechanical problems sending Tankersley to the pits and Lee Sutton would move into fifth. With 10 laps to go Ronnie Johnson, who started mid-pack, would move past Sutton and take over the fifth spot. With two laps remaining Johnson would move past Cook for fourth and on the white flag lap Sutton would take fifth from Cook.
Cook would settle for sixth with Jake Knowles, Shawn Chastain, Jamie Oliver, Ricky Williams and David Payne rounding out the top 10.
Leon Brindle would wire the Limited Late Model feature for his third win in the last three outings. On his journey to victory lane Brindle kept B.J. Pasley and Danny Pippin in his rear view. After two weeks of finishing second to Brindle, Shannon Bearden crossed the stripe in fourth with Brian Burke rounding out the top five.
The win, combined with P.J. Doss' seventh place finish, put the ageless veteran just two points behind point leader Doss.
Jeff Smith kept Doug Kilgore at bay to take the Crate Late Model feature win. Kilgore settled for second with Darryl Ownbey, Jimmy Kay and Seth Wimpy the next three across the line.
After moving past Spencer Singleton for second on lap 10 of the 15 lap Sportsman feature, Lee Gray stalked leader Randy Dillard for 4 laps. After the white flag fell Gray made his move, passing Dillard for the lead and the win. Singleton crossed the line in third, followed by Tony Westmorland and Scott Jackson.
Jamie Parker led every lap to take the Hobby feature win. Larry Higgins was second, Jeff Kile third, Tim Ford fourth and John Parker fifth.
Four Laps into the Mini Stock feature Chris Defore would move past leader Grady Stokes for the lead. Defore would never look back as he would lead the remaining 11 laps for the victory. Stokes held on for second with Ralph Langston, Travis Jacobsen and Randall McGuire rounding out the top five.
Leading every lap John Binger would take a dominate Bomber win. Daniel Bearden was second with Rob Johnson, Tyler B and Donnie Price rounding out the top five.
