Scoggins Scores North Georgia Late Model Win
CHATSWORTH, Ga. (July 27) Taking the lead on the first lap Lamar Scoggins never looked back as the Cleveland, Tenn. driver took the Late Model win at North Georgia Speedway Friday night.
Scoggins' wire-to-wire run was not without competition as point leader Gary McPherson and second in points Paul Hollander kept him honest for all thirty laps of the night's Late Model feature. Following the lead trio across the stripe were Derrick Ellis and Jamie Perry.
With the win Scoggins has a shot at winning the $1,000 bonus if he wins the Late Model feature tonight at Cleveland Speedway.
While leader Jeff Smith was having a relatively easy time of it in the Limited Late Model feature a pair of fours driven by Brian Jackson and Justin Litchford were battling for third. Litchford had the spot and the early advantage with Jackson taking second on the eighth lap only to loose it on the ninth lap. He would move past Litchford for the second and final time with three laps remaining in the 20-lap event and cross the stripe in second. Jackson would settle for third.
Davey Davidson had crossed the line fourth, but he was able to pass post race inspection and was stricken from the final rundown. This enabled Brian Burke to move into fourth and Leon Brindle to fifth.
John Ownbey first held off Allen Green and then Darryl Ownbey to take the Crate Late Model feature win. Darryl Ownbey would settle for second with Green crossing the stripe in third. Barrett Terry and Gathan Burns rounded out the top five.
With the win tonight and win last night at Cleveland if Ownbey can win tonight at Cleveland he is in line for a $1,000 bonus.
In Sportsman action it was all Scott Jackson as he was able to keep point leader Spencer Singleton at bay for all 15 laps of the feature. Lee Gray would move past Lisa Cantrell for third six laps into the event and hold that spot to the checkered flag. Randy Dillard would finish fourth and Cantrell fifth.
Jamie Parker topped the Hobby feature with a flag-to-flag win. Clifton Moran was second with Tim Ford, Larry Higgins and John Parker rounding out the top five.
Mini Stock standout Grady Stokes was able to pad his season point lead as he took the feature win with second in points, Chris Defore crossing the line in third. Brad Allbright was second with Billy Callahan fourth and Ronnie Shelton fifth.
Tom Darby led every lap to take the Bomber win only to have it all negated after he was protested and refused to tear down. Ricky Latham would move into the winners circle with John Binger second, Wesley Brown third and Donny Price fourth.
