Scoggins Over Johnson at North Georgia

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (Aug. 11) For the second time in three weeks Lamar Scoggins parked his Late Model in victory lane at North Georgia Speedway.

Scoggins, who led every lap of the 30 lap feature event, first had to hold off Brad Coffee and then last week's winner Ronnie Johnson to take his second win of the season at the third mile clay oval.

While Scoggins was leading Johnson and Coffee were swapping the second and third spots back and fourth with regularity. Holding down fourth, Jamie Perry with a fast race car found himself looking for an opening for the second week in a row. In the waning laps Johnson took second for good, but was unable to get past Scoggins. Coffee was third across the stripe with Perry fourth and point leader Gary McPherson fifth.

Leon Brindle padded his point lead over Brian Jackson as he held off Shannon Bearden for the Limited Late Model win. Bearden would lead the first nine laps before Brindle took the lead. Jeff Smith was third across the stripe with Jeff Jones and Jackson rounding out the top five.

John Ownbey  took the early lead in the Crate Late Model feature and never looked back as the Cleveland, TN driver wired the field to take the win. Rick Hixson crossed the line in second, point leader Darryl Ownbey was third, Randy Hill fourth and Doug Kilgore fifth.

Lee Gray outran point leader Spencer Singleton to take the Sportsman feature  win. Leading every lap Gray was shadowed by Singleton, Randy Dillard, Scott Jackson. Steve Pasley would pass Roy Smith for fifth with five laps to go in the 15 lap feature.

In Hobby action Jeff Kile led the first 9 laps and looked like he was in control, but mechanical problems put him in the pits and Larry Higgins in the lead. Tanner Works and Jamie Parker would battle for second with Works taking the spot. Next Tim Ford would challenge Works and take second for two laps before Works retook it. When the smoke had cleared Works finished second, Todd Hernandez third, John Clark fourth and John Parker fifth. Jamie Parker and Ford ended up sixth and seventh.

Greg Callahan took the Mini-Stock win over Jimmy Elliot, Billy Callahan, Ralph Langston and Chris Defore.

Ricky Latham outran Jimmy Wakefield to take the Bomber win. Dale Farmer, John Bingor and Tom Darby rounded out the top five.

This Friday night the Top Tracks Challenge Series for Crate Late Models will headline the card at North Georgia Speedway. The event pays $1,500 to win and there will also be racing in Late Models, Hobby, Mini-Stock and Bombers.
