Johnson Takes Top Tracks Win at North Georgia

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (Aug. 17) Ronnie Johnson was in a class of his own as the wily veteran toured North Georgia Speedway's clay banks with relative ease to win the Top Tracks Challenge Series Friday night.

Johnson, who took the lead on the first lap and was never headed in the 30-lap feature event, picked up $1,500 for his winning run. Chip Brindle, Rick Hixson, Jeff Smith and Jake Knowles would follow the leader for the entire race and cross the line as they started.

Rounding out the top 10 were Jerry Fowler, William Thomas, Mike Head, Chuck Padgett and Todd Murphy.

There were 40 Crate Late Models on hand to qualify for the Top Tracks event. Craig Burrows won the consolation event with David McCoy second, Brian Burke third, Curtis Cline fourth and Stephen Pearson fifth.

Lamar Scoggins continued his hot streak as he wired the Late Model feature to take his third win in the last four races. Coming up one spot short for his second feature win of the night Ronnie Johnson crossed the line behind Scoggins. David Payne was third with Paul Hollander and Todd Morrow rounding out the top five.

Jamie Parker finished second in the Hobby feature crossing the line behind Larry Higgens, but when Higgens failed post race inspection Parker was credited with the win. Tim Ford moved up to second, John Parker third, Jason Mabry fourth and Mark DeFore fifth. 

In Mini Stock action point leader Grady Stokes padded his point lead with a wire-to-wire victory. Chris DeFore was second, Kenny Campbell third, Ralph Langston fourth and Randall McGuire fifth.
