Arp Wins SAS Bash at North Georgia.
CHATSWORTH, Ga. (Sept. 1) Skip Arp picked up his second Southern All Star win of the season at North Georgia Speedway when the Old Fort, Tenn. driver won the SAS Labor Day Special Saturday night.
Arp took the lead from fast qualifier Dusty Carver for the second and final time on lap 36. Once out front Arp was able to maintain a comfortable lead between himself and the battle for second between Carver and B-Main winner Ronnie Johnson. As Arp strolled across the stripe for the win Carver and Johnson battled to the line with Johnson taking the runner up spot by a nose. Carver had to settle for second. Dion Deason would come from the rear to take fourth with Ray Cook finishing fifth.
Carver and Lamar Scoggins made up the front row that brought the 24 car feature to the green flag for the start of the 50 lap main event. The first lap saw Carver take the lead with Kevin Gibson in second, Scoggins third, Arp fourth. On the sixth circuit Arp would move past Gibson for second and begin to hound the leader. On a lap 17 restart for one of the 10 cautions of the night, Gibson and Johnson would charge past Arp relegating him to fourth.
In second Gibson had his hands full with Johnson and that enabled Carver to pull out to a decent lead. Gibson and Johnson would battle tooth and nail for second until the two got together. Johnson would hold second while Gibson retired for the evening with rear end problems. Arp would use the outside to pass Johnson for second and then use the inside to retake the lead for Carver.
Brad Coffey, Gar Dickson, Mark Vineyard, Ivedent Lloyd and Bo Shirley rounded out the top 10.
Gary McPherson's 21st place finish was more than enough for the Dalton Georgia Hot Shoe to win the Late Model point championship.
Taking the lead from Justin Litchford on lap 13 of the 20 lap Limited Late Model feature Maryville, Tenn. driver Mark Rosner would go on to take the win. Litchford would settle for second with Scot Franks third, Jeff Jones fourth and Trig Parris fifth.
Ageless veteran Leon Brindle of Chatsworth, Ga. would post an eleventh place finish to win the season long point battle over Brian Jackson and Paul Doss.
In the Sportsman feature it was Scott Jackson leading every lap to take the win over Lee Gray, Spencer Singleton, Larry Higgins and Randy Dillard. Although Jackson won the event point leader Singleton's third place finish was enough to keep his point lead and take the championship. Jackson finished 12 points behind Singleton for second in the year long point battle.
Darryl Ownbey cruised to victory in the Crate Late Models and put a cap on a stellar season that saw the Calhoun, Ga. driver take the point championship. Ownbey led every lap and crossed the line ahead of Allen Green, John Ownbey, Jody Campbell and Cathy Kilgore.
Jeff Kile would lead from flag-to-flag to take the Hobby feature win. Chris Beavers would move past Tim Ford with two laps to go to take second. Ford settled for third with Jim Twiggs fourth and Corey Cresswell fifth.
Jamie Parker's seventh place finish was enough to clinch the championship with Ford second and Kile third in the final point tally.
Greg Callahan took the lead on lap eight and went on to victory in the Mini Stock feature. Chris Defore was second, Kenny Campbell third, Ralph Langston fourth and Billy Callahan fifth.
Grady Stokes finished sixth which was good enough to hold off Defore in the season points giving him the 2007 Mini-Stock Championship. Defore was second by a mere 13 points.
Donnie Price wired the Bomber feature taking the win over Donald Forgey, Chad Shipley, Howard Price and Devin Lockbridge.
